How do I add a user's bio to their blog posts?
-
There used to be a setting under the personal settings http://dandbcredibility.wordpress.com/wp-admin/users.php?page=grofiles-user-settings that would let me add/remove a user’s bio from their posts, but I no longer have that option and wondering how I can add a user’s bio to their posts now.
I’ve searched throughout the admin area of the blog, but not seeing this option anywhere.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The user’s bio appears when you have entered something in the ‘About You’ section on the My Profile page: https://dandbcredibility.wordpress.com/wp-admin/users.php?page=grofiles-editor
Please let us know if you need any further assistance!

Thanks for the reply kardotim!
I’m definitely seeing an exception on this page: http://blog.dandb.com/2013/12/04/cocacola-freestyle-office/
The author, Ashley Adelman, has something written in her “about you” section (I just double checked) and yet her bio area under the post is blank (unlike all the other authors on our blog). Any idea why this might be the case?
Here’s some things worth noting:
* She’s had an account for months (almost definitely back when WordPress.com had check boxes to get the author box to show up), but this is her first post and we just started configuring her account.
* Hoping it would “reset” her account, she changed her bio a bit and saved the results, but this didn’t add her bio box to the bottom of the post.Could it be that her lack of an author box is “grandfathered” in?
-
Note: I just worked with one of my staff members to create a brand-new account. She created an account, updated her bio with a gravitar and yet her posts don’t include a bio either: http://blog.dandb.com/2013/12/05/congressional-hearing-examining-the-post-recessional-small-business-lending-environment/
Note: My posts still include my bio, so clearly the theme is “able” to display the bio: http://blog.dandb.com/2013/12/04/should-you-be-worried-about-your-businesss-online-security/ However, I can’t see any setting to turn this on for new uers.

Hi kardottim,
I’m well aware of the difference between the hosted wordpress and self-hosted wordpress versions… and you are incorrect. http://blog.dandb.com is hosted on wordpress.com. Note the backend URL that you linked to in your first comment: https://dandbcredibility.wordpress.com/wp-admin/users.php?page=grofiles-editor. We pay to have the blog domain as a subdomain on dandb.com, but let there be no doubt that http://blog.dandb.com is hosted by wordpress.com.
I’m guessing that it’s a bug that was introduced when the wordpress.com team changed the backend admin panel. Can you confirm this and/or give me a workaround?
Here’s the theme we’re using: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/magazine/

Sorry about the confusion. You are correct. There might be a bug in this theme. I suggest you contact the theme developer directly through http://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/forum/magazine#postform
Thank you.

Hey kardotim,
Seems a bit too easy to push this back as a bug in the theme.
Here’s an example where the bio shows up on a post (using that theme): http://blog.dandb.com/2013/12/04/career-dun-and-bradstreet-credibility/
and here’s an example where it does not: http://blog.dandb.com/2013/12/05/congressional-hearing-examining-the-post-recessional-small-business-lending-environment/
Clearly, the theme has no problem displaying a “bio” at the bottom of a post, but for some reason, the wordpress.com system is not telling the theme to display the bio.
All indications are that this is a bug within wordpress.com as it is only happening:
1) with new users
2) after the wordpress.com team changed the backend of your admin panel that’s related to how/when to display bio informationAny chance you can have someone look into the issue instead of continuing to brush my well-documented concerns off?

It seems there is a specific theme option listed under Users edit page.
https://dandbcredibility.wordpress.com/wp-admin/user-edit.php?user_id=58724361
This option has to be enabled:
* Enable Author Box on this User’s Posts?
I’ve just enabled it for the author of the post that wasn’t showing the bio info box, and it’s working now.
Thank you for your patience.

Thanks so much kardotim! I see now that bios for both both new users are showing up. That’s exactly what I was looking for!
However, I do have one follow up question… Where can I find the page that says: “Enable Author Box on this User’s Posts?” for other users?
That’s exactly what used to be listed on this page: https://dandbcredibility.wordpress.com/wp-admin/users.php?page=grofiles-user-settings but no longer appears there. You mention is “theme” specific, but based on the URL, it appears to be more specific to the wordpress.com backend around users.
Either way, I think I’ve clicked on every page within the “theme” settings and “user” settings and can’t find a page with that option box.
Note: When I click on the link you provided, I get the error: “You do not have permission to edit this user”, so there’s not much insight into how to get to that page for another user through the URL.

Sorry for the delay. It seems the theme doesn’t automatically enable the author box to be shown. There is an option’s but it’s not included into the theme’s options page. I recommend contacting the theme developer directly and request for this feature to be included, or have the theme enable the author box if the ‘About You’ section is filled in.

Thank you for your patience.

Assuming the developer doesn’t support this any time soon, is there another workaround? I see you found a URL (doesn’t work for me) where you can edit the information. If I can find a user’s “user id”, will I be able to update the information there?
-
Since you can consider this as a bug it’s something that the theme developer needs to enable for its users. I highly recommend contacting them using the link in my previous reply.
Cheers.
