How do I add blog entries to other pages?
-
Hi,
My company blog (racelogic.wordpress.com) deals with a number of different topics, and I don’t think the category bar to the right differentiates them enough for someone who is looking at the blog.
What I would like to do is to add further pages along the top row of the blog, in the same way as I have added the ‘About Us’ and ‘Subscribe’ pages already, and be able to add new posts to them, as well as to the main home blog.
Is there a way of doing this?
Many thanks, Harry

The link to the wordpress.com Support Documentation is one to bookmark as you will be using it frequently. Here it is http://en.support.wordpress.com/
I did a search for “pages” and here are the results:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/When you read these entries you will come to understand the differences between a post and a page. A blog has only one page upon which the latest posts appear in reverse chronological order with the latest post at the top. All the other Pages you create are for static content only, content that rarely, if ever, changes. Content on static pages can only be updated by editing.

Thanks timethief. Yes I have just seen those articles, thanks.
Realising the differences now, I think the alternatives would be to create a sticky post with links to the categories, or a separate front page, with links to the categories.
What would be great, is if you could make pages, and edit the url so that it points straight to the relevant category. At present it doesn’t allow you to do this.

@harrynt
There is a “trick” which would enable you to add your category pages to the top navigation bar of your blog. In your theme, Contempt, it works pretty well–slightly odd, but acceptable.
Look here before you give up: -
YOu can with certain themes here using the trick explained in this blog post by Panos: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/26/page-tabs-as-external-links/ .
Also, the iNove theme gives you the choice of having the top tabs either pages or categories, but not both.
