How do I add 'continue reading' button on the front page?
-
Hi, I have my website msanrimaria.wordpress.com and using Lovecraft Theme. I add recipes on my website but what happens right now is that when I open the list of archives, it shows full length of contents from the each blog posts. Hence, it is not easy for everyone to find what they are looking for. As I see the sample of Lovecraft theme, I see that some example blog posts is showing ‘continue reading’ instead of showing all the contents unless you click the actual blog post you want to read.
How do I show a shorter version of contents and add’continue reading’ while one is browsing which blog post to read?
I really cant explain well but I hope someone can help me on this. Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Note that “the more tag” is not a theme-specific feature. There is also no global setting for it. It can only be embedded into individual posts and pages.
Also, note that the setting here > Settings > Reading is only for the RSS Feed summary and does not affect the posts.
If you want to display only excerpts on the front page of the blog followed by read more links, you can insert “the more tag” into each post prior to publication in the exact spot you want the content to split off.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/The read more tag can be inserted once only into any post to change the front page or main page for posts display from full post to an excerpt. The split in the content does not display to you in preview mode but it will be there after the post is published.
Alternatively, you can switch to using a theme that automatically displays front page excerpts. Use this filter for active themes on WordPress.com that use the excerpt instead of full post content. https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/blog-excerpts
For other ways to splitting content in posts see > https://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/

Thank you very much!!
Do you also happen to know how I can show the list of titles from archives link instead of showing all the blog posts itself?
-
You can create a Page https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ and on the Page you can use the Archives shortcode https://en.support.wordpress.com/archives-shortcode/
You can create a custom menu https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/view-all/#1-create-a-custom-menu and add that Page into a custom menu https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/view-all/#adding-pages. -
I am sorry but where do I add the Archives shortcode? what does it mean by adding the shortcode to my visual editor?
-
No you do as I said above and and on the Page you can use the Archives shortcode. Please read https://en.support.wordpress.com/archives-shortcode/ as the instructions are stated there. You simplu type [archives] into the body of the Page and publish it.
