How do i add ecommerce functions to my existing blog on wordpress.com??
-
Hi there i’m new to blogging and i’m trying to do up a site for my blog shop… however i need ecommerce features and i’m wondering how do i incorporate that to my exisiting blog that i’m creating?? I’ve search around and saw some wp-ecommerce plugins which looks good for me but i’m also wondering if i download these, will i be able to incorporate that to my exisiting site (because it looks like i have to sign up/should have an exisiting hosting company to use these plugins)? Do wordpress.com support these plugins? If not kindly advise how can i add ecommerce (shopping cart etc) to my site? Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You cannot. WordPress.com was never set up to do ecommerce and it is mostly against the terms of service here at any rate.
People can sell stuff that they have created with themselves such as jewelery, crafts, paintings, pottery, photographs, etc., but you will have to sell them through some place like an Etsy shop.

If you need ecommerce, you will have to hire a web host and self-host a site using the software from wordpress.ORG. Figure about $10 to $25 per month depending on bandwidth and storage requirements. You will be responsible for all installations, all upgrades, all backups and all troubleshooting. If something goes wrong, you have to figure it out and fix it.
Self-hosting is far easier than it once was, but it still takes time and energy, and backups are seriously important. You need to back up completely (including the MySQL database) and often. With a current backup if something goes wrong you can be back up and running fairly painlessly. Without it though you run the risk of having to start over. Most web hosts do backups, but not all of them are as diligent as they should be, and some back up only the server software and it is up to the clients to do their own backups of their site files and databases.

Hi thanks alot for helping me! But i’ve already did a domain upgrade so if i get a web host, download the wordpress software at wordpress.org and those plugins… how do i keep my domain name? Just point it to the web host from wordpress.com or?
-
Yes, just edit the DNS nameserver records here in the domain management section and point them at the new web host. The new host should provide you with the addresses you need to use.

hey ya allabtphotography- don’t despair- the self-help guides from wordpress.com are gold, even for a luddite like me.
it is as easy as TSP says above!
i have decided for my own reasons (different to yours above) to stay hosted with wordpress.com and anything like what you need to do above i would do through a different site or service.
good luck! ^^ -
How do I copy an download (e-commerce) from my computer to my wordpress plugin directory. Please help!!!

@angelina44
Go here and post on the correct forum for your software > http://wordpress.ORG/support/ -
@angelina44
If you are referring to a wordpress.COM blog then no blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted wordpress.COM blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM

If you do require an ecommerce site, advertising and/or affiliate links you can hire a web host and get a free software install from http://wordpress.org Refer to > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ -
@angelina44, we need a link to the site you are talking about. If your site is self-hosted somewhere like godaddy, bluehost, etc., then you are in the wrong forum but you can do ecommerce. Self-hosted sites are supported at http://wordpress.ORG/support/ .
If your site is hosted here at wordpress.COM, read this thread you have posted into. Ecommerce cannot be done here at wordpress.COM.
