How Do I Add More Categories to Archive Box?

I use Depo Masthead theme. At the bottom of each page, there is an Archive box which lists categories; apparently, only seven are visible in this list despite the fact that I have nine categories listed in My Dashboard. How do I add more categories to the category list?

Categories may appear in your dashboard, but readers won’t see them unless there is at least one post assigned. Do you have at least one post assigned to the 2 “missing” categories?

Whoops, the ninth category is “Uncategorized” and I have no posts assigned to this yet. However, I have five posts assigned to the other missing category. To elaborate on the problem, my categories are Art, Books, Comedy, German, Music, Newspapers, Polls, Science, and Uncategorized. You clarified why Uncategorized is not showing up,(thanks 1tess!) but why can’t I see Science in my Archive box? I deleted ‘Polls’ just to see what would happen and sure enough, ‘Science’ re-appeared on the list (the next in line in my Dashboard).

I see a category called science/nature on the most recent post on your blog. I think by using the slash mark you might be fooling wordpress into thinking nature is a subcategory of science.
Go to appearance > widgets and click on the right end of the category widget title bar to open it up and click “show hierarchy then click save and then click close and the go to your blog and force refresh the page.
In the categories list ( posts > categories ) do any of the category names show up with a dash (-) in front of it?

None of the category names show up with a dash in front of it. However, after activating the widget, I noticed that all my categories showed up in the right hand column at the bottom of the page (the area that is currently ‘Etc’). Does this mean that the middle column, ‘Archives’ (where my categories are listed) needs to be reconfigured?

DePo is a little weird. Under Archives it lists both yearly archives on the left and what they apparently think of as category archives on the right. Think of it as a categories widget and a archive widget built into one widget.

Gotcha! Thank you so much, I never played around with the widgets before—your suggestion forced me to get in there and experiment. Thanks again.
p.s. I changed the middle column (Archives) to a dropdown menu and moved the categories to the right column.
