the article says the read more symbol will not work in all themes and will only work if the content is pulled from the homepage. I’m using 2014 theme. There must be a way to add multiple articles on a page..

And by multiple articles, do you mean multiple posts?
You can get multiple posts per page by making sure your settings – reading for posts per page indicate more than 1 post:
You do this in the wp-admin dashboard following this article:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/reading-settings/I thought your issue was that you did not want the full post displaying.

Your correct I only want to use read more option on pages. Not interested in multiple blogs on a page. How can I do this. Nothing I try seems to work. Has anyone every use the more option on pages.
