The archives are posts only. Pages are static and sit outside the blog structure and will never display in the archives.
Using pages for your content has major drawbacks you need to be be aware of:
1. Pages will show up lower in search engine results because search engines place lower emphasis on pages. Pages are meant for static content. For some types of sites, this may actually be the best way of presenting the material though.
2. When you publish a post, wordpress automatically “pings” all the major search engines to let them know you have published a new post so that they can index it. When you publish a page, wordpress does NOT “ping” the search engines. You will have to ping manually at a service such as pingomatic.com.
3. Only posts show up on an RSS feed, pages do not. That means people cannot subscribe to your blog so that they are alerted when you add something new.
4. You can assign categories and tags to posts to help the search engines properly place you in search results. Pages cannot have tags or categories as they sit outside the blog structure.

Very helpful. Thank you!
Is there a way I can easily convert my pages to posts so I can archive them?

In the mean time I prefer my pages be listed using the side bar widget which I have now added.
How can I remove the pages from showing under my header?
-
Sadly the only way is copy and paste, and archiving isn’t something you “do” it is done automatically each time you make a post.
The other issue you face on changing over is that your blog has been around, I assume, for a year, and what you have now is in the search engine indexes, but your google page rank is still 0, so switching right now I expect would not be a major problem other than any links in search engines to the pages you have created would return 404 file not found errors.
The think is though the advantages to using posts rather than pages is huge.

You can’t really. I think you’ll need to copy/paste the pages one by one in order to turn them into posts. It’s not as bad as it sounds. One hours work or so.
After that you just delete the pages and exchange the urls in the sidebar widgets with the new ones from the posts.

If I have to copy and paste I will. Any idea if I can remove the pages showing up under my header and still use the same appearance? Thanks to both of you for the input.

The top navigation is only for pages. The posts will not show there, but you can use the ‘recent posts’ widget in the sidebar and it will show up to the last 15 posts.
Also, set up and use appropriate categories and assign them to the posts and then put the categories widget into your sidebar.
Tag your posts as well as that helps search engines figure out how to place your posts in searches. Don’t use too many tags though as that can get you excluded from the wordpress.com global tags pages, which for many people are a source of a good number of visitors. Limit your tags to 10 or 12 and you will be fine.

Okay. I’ve got a ton of work to do. I found a temporary solution to getting rid of all the pages listed under the header by changing appearances. I can clearly see that pages don’t give me the kind of control over content that I feel I need, thanks to what you have posted, so it’s goodbye to pages. I’ll cut and paste my current pages into posts. I’ll also check out the categories widget. Finally I will follow your advice and tag my posts.
I checked out your blog and I like the picture of the wave breaking and your use of color.
I really appreciate all the help you have given me!

You’re welcome, and thanks for the compliment on my site. If I ever get my current crop of web clients satiated, I’ll wade into my blog and do some changes.
