How do I add pictures to my blog for the new wordpress.com format?

The wordpress blog typing format was recently changed. It does look more streamlined, but the simple add-ons of media has disappeared. Instead, there is a “Photo Gallery” button on the bottom of the post. I’m supposed to be able to add a picture there. When I add a picture, it just gets saved there, but I can’t do anything with it. I tried to add the picture by dragging it into the post and it just copied pages worth of code and no actual picture.

Gone is the button where I can add linked media and images or even access my own old images.

Please help, this has incapacitated our food blog which needs pictures to function.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there Dan (or Kristien?),

Thanks for reaching out. As you pointed out, we just recently released this new design to our NewDash composition tool and as you noted there is a small bug in it which is preventing users from uploading and inserting media.

Not to worry though, you can still compose your posts with media in place! What you’ll need to do is go to your Dashboard and then navigate to Posts >> Add New. You’ll be able to compose your posts there and the Add Media button is still present (and it should even be working! ;) ).

Let me know if you run in to any troubles, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you!

Yes, it’s both of us. :P We did your trick and it worked, thank you! We’ll just have to say what happens if we edit it in Drafts later if it’ll go back to the new default format or will stay the old way. Hopefully the old way!

    Much appreciated.

So, I checked and once you save it using the old format, then going back to edit it under Drafts, it goes right to the new format. So, what a person has to do to add pictures is write and edit their work to perfection, save it for back up, then copy and paste it into the New Post like you showed through Dashboard. Then, when it’s been pasted in, add links, add pictures, then add captions then publish. Otherwise, it’ll just revert back and you’ll have to do it all over again. Hopefully the designers fix this fast, man…

If you go back under the Dashboard menu, you can do it. Man, complicated.

    Hi guys,

I’m being told that it’s getting worked on. I’m sorry that it’s so complicated and such a work around. I can only assure you that they’re growing pains and that once the bugs are shaken out the new experience should be fantastic.

    Again, my apologies!
