How do I add six members of my writers' group as authors?

None are existing users. I want to upload their pictures, as well.

Have them sign up here first: http://en.wordpress.com/signup/
Then add each person to your users page: http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/
They will need to add their own picture on their Users → My Profile page after they create an account.
