How do I add the 'follow' button?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I have recently switched off of my .wordpress.com site and onto a wordpress.org site. I have moved all of my previous subscriptions onto my new site and have the option to follow my blog with the WordPress blue button and an option to subscribe via email for people who don’t have WordPress. However, I am wondering how I get the little gray follow button that appears in the bottom right-hand corner when you open up a WordPress site? Thanks in advanced!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi @mckenzmorgan,

I believe what you’re referring to is the “actionbar” and unfortunately that is a feature exclusive only to WordPress.com sites.

WordPress.com users would be able to see this only when logged in and viewing other sites that are also hosted on WordPress.com.

I would recommend visiting the WordPress.org forums, which is where you can find help for self-hosted WordPress sites and maybe even an alternative way to implement a follow button similar to the actionbar.

  • Hi there,

The action bar is not available for self-hosted sites yet, but the team on Jetpack is working on it. I can’t give you a timeline on when it should be released. But as long as you keep the Jetpack plugin up to date, you should get that the moment it’s ready.
