how do i add the google analytics tracking code to my wordpress site?

I’ve found quite a few tutorials online, but they all tell me to go to Dashboard > Appearance > Editor (Theme editor). But I can’t find the Editor option anywhere. Supposedly, in that section I can directly view and edit certain code files. But, again, I don’t see that nav option anywhere. Can you please tell me two things:
    1) how can I edit my backend files via the wordpress online interface that I log in when I go to wordpress.com?
    2) how can I add the google analytics tracking code?

    thanks,
    Melonie

    Hi there,

    To answer your questions:

    1) WordPress.com users cannot access the backend. If you require FTP access to your site, you may want to look into using a self-hosted installation of WordPress.org.

    2) Similarly, WordPress.com users are unable to use Google Analytics with their blogs at this point in time. We do, however, have an excellent Stats tool available on your Dashboard.
