How do I add users to a blog? I only get "invite users" option, not "add users"

  I am creating a blog for a client. I am the administrator, she will be the author.
  I would like to add her as a user however i only get the option to invite users, which does not work for us.
  Please help!

  The invite users option is the only way to add another user into your site as an author. Once you invite her, she will get an email. She has to accept the invitation from that email and then she will be added to the site.

  Thanks Alex.
  However, when she clicks on “accept invitation” the page that displays is my dashboard – she has access to everything. And there is nowhere for her to set herself up as an author.

  Sounds like she’s accepting the invitation into the same browser where you are logged in, instead of her being logged in. When that happens the invite doesn’t go through, it’s just showing you your own dashboard.

  Log out of WordPress.com, then have her open the invitation. It will ask her to log in or create an account. Since he already has an account, just log in. Then it will add her as a user with Author privileges.

  The dashboard will look very much the same, she just won’t be able to change settings beyond adding new posts.

  Hi Alex – Actually my client does not already have an account – i have set up her blog for under my account – and this is where we really need the help – what is the absolute simplest/most straightforward way for her to become an author? Will she have to create an account? I was hoping she can simply author the blog, without having to deal with setting up any accounts – she is v tech challenged!

  There’s no way to be a user on a WordPress.com site without having a WordPress.com account. She’ll need to make to make an account with an email address she has access to, but the invite process will lead her through that.

  Here’s the simplest steps possible:

  1. Visit this page with her to help her create a free WordPress.com account without creating a site: https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/?user=1
  2. After creating that account, she’ll receive an email from us. Follow that email’s instructions to verify the account.
  3. Next, you go to the invite users page for the site you’ve created for her: https://whisperingbaby.wordpress.com/wp-admin/users.php?page=wpcom-invite-users
  4. Send her an email with the invitation (will look like this)
  5. She’ll receive an email that looks like this
  6. In a browser where she is logged into WordPress.com, have her click Accept Invitation

  After that, she’ll just need to login at WordPress.com to write posts.
