How do I add widgets?

The WordPress.com Help page says to go to the Dashboard and go to Appearance > Widget. But Widget is not an option under Appearance on my Dashboard – the only subcategories under Appearance are the following: Themes, Customize, Menus, Header, Background, Custom Design, Mobile. What’s up with that?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I just found the link that says “The theme you are currently using isn’t widget-aware, meaning that it has no sidebars that you are able to change. For information on making your theme widget-aware, please follow these instructions.” I will give those instructions a try! Thanks anyway.

But do these instructions apply to wordpress.com sites?

Wow, I’m getting good at answering my own questions. Found the answer elsewhere online that widgets are not supported by Timepiece.

  • Hi there – Yes, Timepiece is one of the few themes that doesn’t support widgets. Most any other theme will, and I see you’ve already chosen another one. :)

Incidentally, the support document you linked to is for self-hosted WordPress sites and does not apply to your site. For support documentation for your site, please visit:

Thanks very much! Yes, I decided to switch to the eventbrite template and am very happy with it. Before, even though I am using wordpress.com, when I was using Timepiece, I happened upon the upper left hand drop down menu and saw Widget and clicked on it. I was sent to a page with this message and link:

“The theme you are currently using isn’t widget-aware, meaning that it has no sidebars that you are able to change. For information on making your theme widget-aware, please follow these instructions (http://codex.wordpress.org/Widgetizing_Themes).”

I did realize, eventually, that that article didn’t apply to me as a .com user. If anyone out there has power to change this, it might be good if folks on wp.com don’t get sent to that page, since it doesn’t apply to them. I wasted a lot of time today on other articles that I realized, half way through, didn’t apply to me because they were for wp.org! Thanks again.
