How do I allow the public to view my 'website' but not edit it?

How do I allow the public to view my ‘website’ but not edit it. ie each page has [edit] on it currently. ???
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
It’s an Admin link that only you as Admin and any editors you have can see when you are logged in. It’s for your convenience and your visitors cannot see it. You cannot remove it as it’s coded into the theme templates and we cannot edit templates or themes.
Also note there will be autofilled information in a contact form or a comment box but your information is visible to you when you are logged in and have not cleared your browser cache and cookies. No one else can see it.
When someone makes a comment on your blog, unless they have cleared their cookies, WordPress.com will recognize them and complete the details for them. No one else will be able to view those details in comment boxes or in contact forms. The next person who comments will see blank fields. Commenters will not see each others details.

Prove this to yourself by logging out and clearing your browser cache. Then visit the site as any visitor would without logging in. http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache

Thankyou ‘Timethief’.
I did as you suggested…cleared the browser log and then … whilst logged out, went to google and looked for my ‘website’ : http://www.moichabrahams.co.uk and was shown the privacy message requiring password to log in. So ‘stranger’ wouldn’t be able to view my website…and I want them to. If I log in and do the same, the [edit] button is still there (I understand your explanation , viz: “we cannot edit templates or themes”) but it looks like it could be used to actually edit. Are you saying that if a ‘stranger’ tries this from another computer , they will be able to view my web site but that the [edit] button won’t work for them or won’t be visible to them? I am quite nervous about this as I am not too great technically with this stuff. ie concerned that a ‘stranger’ could interfere with what I have created so far. -
I am sorry. I apologize that I did not realize the blog visibility was set to private. You can change that. To change blog visibility to Private go to Dashboard > Settings > Reading scroll to Site Visibility and choose option 3 http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

Yes that’s exactly what I said but first you have to change the blog visibility to Public.
-
Thanks again, however I already had option 3 chosen, the private one,,,,but I would like my site to be visible to anyone, not simply visitors I invite. I seem to be stuck here?
-
Whoops I am confused. Earlier you suggested changing to Private via option 3. But now you say change to public. Which option is that. Sorry if I am slow on the uptake.
-
You aren’t stick there. Option 3 is for Private. Option 1 is for Public. So please change the Private setting to option 1 Public and click
save changes. -
Just to be clear….the page I am looking at shows the first option as: ” Allow search engines to index this site” Is that what you call option one? Or am I looking at the wrong place?
-
-
Ok. Did that. What can I expect to happen now please? Am i getting closer to the solution?
-
You did it! Your site is now public. http://moichabrahams.wordpress.com/
It takes weeks for search engines to index content in a new blog and/or to re-index content under a new URL. What attracts search engines is unique content in posts (not pages) that cannot be found anywhere else on the internet. Start now publishing original content posts frequently two or even three times weekly. For more information read > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/01/21/omg-i-cant-find-my-blog-on-google/
To verify blog ownership of a WordPress.com blog with the major search engines you must use this process > http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/
Note: Even if you do not verify the blog the content will be indexed by search engines so don’t feel panicky about this please.Note also that WordPress.com automatically supplies sitemaps for our blogs to search engines – we do nothing. http://en.support.wordpress.com/sitemaps/#xml-sitemaps-for-search-engines
Lastly note that we cannot assist with search engine issues. They are between the blogger and the search engine. http://en.support.wordpress.com/search-engines/

I think it will take a while to get my head round the info you sent about search engines…I’ll have to tackle that later. In the meanwhile I hope it is the case that my website is public and safe ie not editable by others. If I have understood…that is what you have said isn’t it? So thank you for your help, much appreciated!

Yes and yes. :)

PS if you still have any patience left, can you please tell me how
(a) I can add more images to my ‘Gallery’ page (I was shown how in July but have forgotten) and
(b) how can I add an image (of a map, from my desk top) to my ‘Studio Location’ page? -
As I am about to log out another Vo9lunteer will have to help with those two issues. You may want to start another thread as they are not related to the original issues here. Here is the link so you can create anew thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1
