How do I apply a new WordPress template to an old url?

    Hi,

I purchased your Premium package yesterday and setup domain names: escondidosfuturedotcom1 and escondidosfuturedotcom.wordpress.com. I failed to take into account that we currently have a website with the domain name of escondidosfuture.org with our url hosted by GoDaddy, which is effective until 2017. Our plan is to setup the blog with WordPress and have this take the place of the current website.

Q: Was there a way we could have purchased our WordPress service to setup the new content and then have it go on-line as escondidosfuture.org, a url we already own? We would prefer not to have to change the url from .org to .com since we have several hundred people who know our .org url.

    Thanks.

    Hi there,

I see that you currently have escondidosfuture.com mapped to escondidosfuturedotcom1.wordpress.com.

Since you own escondidosfuture.org, you can instead purchase domain mapping to map that to escondidosfuturedotcom1.wordpress.com, and then you can import the content on your existing site to WordPress.com. This document explains the process in more detail:

If you wish, I can cancel the escondidosfuture.com and credit you so you can use the domain mapping credit from the bundle to map the .org domain. However, there’s a lot to be said for keeping a .com domain as well, as some people might mistype the domain name when trying to find your site, and this way either the .com address or the .org address will bring them to your site. You can make the .org address the primary one, though, so it’s what ends up showing in the address bar and would be what someone would bookmark.

Let me know how you wish to proceed and if you have any other questions about this.
