How do I apply maintenance mode if I'm using the online version of WordPress?

    Good day,

I’m using the online version of WordPress to run a site about a conference I organise. I’m planning to make a fairly major structural change to the site today, but I can’t work out how to put it into maintenance mode. I’ve looked around on google but all suggestions there point towards getting a plugin, however, since I’m just using the online version this doesn’t seem to be an option.

Privacy mode seemed to be one alternative but this just cuts people off the blog and doesn’t allow me to say why it’s temporarily unavailable, so that’s not so helpful!

Is there any way to put a site in maintenance mode without installing WordPress on my computer? I’m not so tech-savvy so would prefer to remain with the simpler online version if possible.

I assume this is too late to get an answer for this specific query and I’ll just have to make all the changes while visitors can watch, but it would be helpful to know my options for future modifications!

    Thanks!

    Ian

If you don’t want to set your blog to private, you could at least define a custom homepage that doesn’t show your posts.
