How do I archive the url from my old blog into my new blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have an old blog url that I want to archive on my new blog url. I tried It and only got a few months and I want the whole couple years to archive. Also would I make two archive widgets so that the old one is in one and then new posts would be from the new blog, because I would have different titles for both archives since we have to have a title?
I have been fighting with this for many weeks and now 6 hours straight trying to reach all i could about the different types of widgets and archives. Can anyone please help? Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I tried It and only got a few months…

Did you export posts from the old blog and import them to the new? If so, perhaps the import was only partially successful. I would try it again. You could construct a widget (hint: use a text widget) on the new site containing links to any or all posts on the older site. Is that what you wish to do?

Hi musicdoc1! Thank you for helping. No, I don’t know anything about export and import. lol I would like my old blog to be archived maybe using the year, If possible, and new one by months. I will just do by month if I have to. It will not bother me any. lol I just used a widget and added the url of the old blog. No wonder It only put in about the last 3 months of it. lol I feel dumb! lol I am going to try it now and hope I do it right. Thanks again and take care! I will post back here whether it worked or not.

Hi again! Ok, I read the documentation on import and export and import saved on my desktop automatically. It saved as an “.xml” file. Then I went to my new blog and did import. After I chose myself as the only author I got a message.

    Import WordPress
    Processing…
We’re processing your import now and will send you an email when it’s all done. If you don’t hear from us within 24 hours, please contact support, and we’ll get everything fixed.

Now I don’t know if I can sign out of my new blog or what to do. Anyone, please help! lol Thanks, I am desperate!

I just used a widget and added the url of the old blog. No wonder It only put in about the last 3 months of it.

I didn’t find this widget on https://blueporchersslfashionblog.wordpress.com/. Is it still there? What kind of widget did you use?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi musicdoc! I just checked my blog and somehow it has turned off but is there now under archive. I do not think it imported all individual post but the majority is there now.

It did not import the logos with links in the sidebar for everyone I blogged for nor did It add the links from my old blogroll.

It does say it’s still processing. Do you think it might still add them or what should I do now?? Thank you!

Hi again! So sorry I am a pest with setting up this new blog but my mentor made my old one for me when I started to blog.

On the old blog the comments were added at the bottom of the post for everyone to read. I did have it set up to approve before it printed, but it printed the whole comment. The new blog only says the number of replies and the word “replies”. How can I get It to print out all of their comment at the bottom of each new post?

Also, my tags won’t show on the new blog. I have forgotten how to get them to print.

Again, I apologize for all the questions. Thank you so very much! :) <3

What are the addresses of your old blog and new blogs?

  • Unknown's avatar

    OLD BLOG:
    http://blueporchersfashionblog.wordpress.com

    NEW BLOG:
    http://blueporchersslfashionblog.wordpress.com

sl is the only difference in the blog links. I hope these show up. lol

  • Unknown's avatar

So sorry to add another one!

My RSS Feed and RSS Coment does not show either.
My Bloglovin picture and link does not show.
Blog Hits count and my NEWTWORED BLOGS LINK AND BUTTON which was connected to my old blog.
I hope this is all. Thanks again so much!

    @ blueporchers,

It does say it’s still processing. Do you think it might still add them or what should I do now?? Thank you!

Does it seem to be stuck on processing without adding more posts? If so, we might have to ask staff to stop or reset the importer.

It did not import the logos with links in the sidebar for everyone I blogged for nor did It add the links from my old blogroll.

Importing links or Blogroll has to be done separately. See the Import & Export Links support page for instructions.

The new blog only says the number of replies and the word “replies”. How can I get It to print out all of their comment at the bottom of each new post?

One theme might display comments differently than another. To modify the format of comments on a theme will likely require CSS customization. However, I’m not seeing what you’ve reported. The only post I found with comments displayed the comments as follows:
I’M BACK! displays two comments under the heading 2 thoughts on “I’M BACK!”

    Thanks for the two addresses.

My import is ok now. I checked my email and already did get one saying it was a success. I refreshed the page for processing and it was finally clear back to dashboard. I am copying my old blog widgets and things are starting to appear. lol

I already got denied blogging for someone because my hits were too low but there is 12,000 more not showing. I am using the Blog Stats widget just like the old one and nothing under visibility on the old one but shows only 60 on the new blog. Darn! Suggestions??

The old blog has a widget titled Text with no title with the following:
    “<div style=”position:fixed;bottom:0;left:2px;”>
</div>” no quotes. I do not know what this is but isn’t on new blog.

Old Blog widget does not have a comment widget but shows the whole comment after I approved them. New blog doesn’t show the name, pic and comment unless you click on the Replies Button at the top of the post.

Thanks for all your help! I am happy to supply you with my information anytime so you may help me, no thanks necessary. Hugs

You might consider paying for the Site Redirect upgrade offered by WordPress.com. Otherwise it will take longer for people to find out that you’ve moved to a new site. You’ve notified your followers of the move and provided them with a link to the new site, but if your traffic is anything like mine only a relatively small portion of daily or weekly visitors will enter the site through the latest post.

Moving Subscribers from one WordPress.com site to another requires staff assistance. Please add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar here to call for staff attention.

The old blog has a widget titled Text with no title with the following:
    “<div style=”position:fixed;bottom:0;left:2px;”>
    </div>” no quotes.

The content of this widget is incompletely formed, making the widget essentially useless as is. It may be deleted.

Old Blog widget does not have a comment widget but shows the whole comment after I approved them.

Most if not all WordPress.com themes will not display the comments on the posts blog page. Links to comments might be displayed on the posts page. They may be displayed in full, without prompting, on the single posts. I didn’t find any comments or links to comments displayed on the posts displayed on the front page of the old blog. But I wouldn’t be surprised to find a single post on the old blog that “shows the whole comment.” That’s typical.

New blog doesn’t show the name, pic and comment unless you click on the Replies Button at the top of the post.

Again that’s normal. On the posts or blog page with the Twenty Twelve theme you get links to the comments. The full comments appear on the single post. See for example the comments displayed in full without prompting on the post I’M BACK!

Hi Doc! Thank you so much for getting back to me and for all your help. The new blog updated more and more after you went offline. I can see more and more content but still the blog stats are not showing the total actual Hits. The follow by email is there just not the total hits. I can add the modlook tag but do not have the money for them to actually do it for me. Will they give me advice and directions to do it myself?

Is it possible to change themes without losing all my content? I could change to the same one I had If I could remember what it was. lol

i moved a links widget for my syndication to be closer to the NETWORKEDBLOGS, but it still is showing above Flickr pics. Wondering why NETWORKEDBLOGS is so much farther down than the rest of the sidebar. hmmm Must be a code or something. lol

Thank you so very much for all of your help and suggestions. I sooo appreciate it. You are very good at helping. Take care and Bless You! Hugs

You mean to move subscribers? Moving them from one WordPress.com site to another is free. The Moving Subscribers support page says:

If you want to move your site’s subscribers and followers over to another WordPress.com site that you own, you can contact us, and we’ll take care of it in a jiffy.

Yes, you can change themes without losing any content. Widgets might have to be moved from the inactive widgets area back to the active widgets area. I think https://blueporchersfashionblog.wordpress.com/ has the Ocean Mist theme.

Did you put the “Networked Blogs” in a different widget area than the others? I didn’t even know that that widget could be added to a WordPress.com website.

Thank you so very much for all of your help and suggestions…

    You’re welcome. : )

Oh, sorry! I forgot one other issue. I have image boxes on the old blog for the logos of some of the places i blogged for. Each one is a separate image widget with the info when you click on it. Do I have to copy each one of those all over again? My media library did import from the old blog.

    Thanks again hun.

Isn’t there a way to edit my answers to you if you haven’t responded yet? Wouldn’t be so many posts. lol

NETWORKEDBLOG has to be alone and I checked and the code I have to copy from their site says it’s a footer. Darn!

Thanks for reminding me of the theme too. lol Again thanks for everything. :)

If the images are in your media library on the new site, then you can simply create each of the image widgets again. On your earlier question about logos: “It did not import the logos with links in the sidebar for everyone I blogged for…” I didn’t know what you were referring to and forgot to ask you.

Isn’t there a way to edit my answers to you if you haven’t responded yet? Wouldn’t be so many posts. lol

    Unfortunately, no.

NETWORKEDBLOG has to be alone and I checked and the code I have to copy from their site says it’s a footer. Darn!

I don’t know. Is it in a text widget? I believe that if you put it in the same widget area as the others it should display among them. If not, perhaps you can modify the code so that the space is removed.

You’re the one who controls where it goes. Maybe there’s another size option at NetworkedBlogs for a sidebar widget. In any case, you should be able to put it in the main sidebar widget area. Did you put it in a footer widget area?

  • Unknown's avatar

NETWORKEDBLOG is code that I do not know anything about. It is in a text box:
    “<!–NetworkedBlogs Start–><!–.networkedblogs_widget a {text-decoration:none;color:#3B5998;font-weight:normal;}.networkedblogs_widget .networkedblogs_footer a {text-decoration:none;color:#FFFFFF;font-weight:normal;}–>

    NetworkedBlogsBlue Sky Fashionista

    Topics:

    Secondlife, Fashion, Clothing </td></tr><tr><td style=”border:none;padding:0;”><div id=’networkedblogs_badges’> </div></td></tr><tr><td style=”border:none;padding:0;”><div style=’padding:0;text-align:center;’>Follow my blog</div></td></tr></table></div></div><div id=’networkedblogs_below’ class=’networkedblogs_below’></div></div><!–NetworkedBlogs End–>”
There isn’t another size available. I added the Text Widget to my sidebar just like everything else.

The two other syndications is in a Links Widget in sidebar, not footer.

I used the Facebook Liked Box widget and at the bottom It says FB Likes and when I click it only takes me to my facebook wall. I also used the regular FB Box with the rest so I do know which blogs are liked and not liked. I don’t know why she added that link to my FB Page. Oh well, guess it doesn’t hurt because every time I post on WP it is printed on my FB anyway. lol

    Thanks hun!
