How do I attach a blog to a category?

    I created 5 Categories. I then created my first blog to be inserted into the first category. But there was no place to attach it the category I wanted to use. When I went to the category section next to the new blog and entered the first word of the category that I wanted to use it created a totally new category of one word. It placed my blog in ALL 5 categories I’d created! I have no idea how to delete this mess. I have no idea how to attach my blog to the one category that I choose.
