    Hi there,

BackWPup is a plugin which is design for self-installed WordPress.org sites. We do not allowed plugins for security reasons in WordPress.com. In case you’re not familiar, there are a series of small but important differences between the two which we break down right here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you really feel like you need this plugin, you may want to consider transitioning over to a self-hosted site. You can find some information about changing right here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

    Hello
I am not moving a blog, I have a new website that will use the same domain name on a different server. I just want to archive my old site but don’t know how to do that. I have a web developer who made a new website that will use my current domain name. He has made all new pages. So I do not need to transfer the content. I would like to archive my old site because there is content that has not been made into pages on my new site. Could you guide me in how to do that? I exported by current site into an XML document in my downloads, but not sure what to do with that.
    Thanks!
    Marie

Oh, OK! Since you are using your domain (birthandbabiesbydesign.com) elsewhere and you are just looking to keep a copy of your site then there’s a pretty easy solution.

When you change your domain’s nameservers to point to the new servers your WordPress.com site will still be there at the blog name’s address (birthandbabiesbydesign.wordpress.com). You can leave the site up at that address indefinitely. If you would rather the rest of the world not be able to see it, but just keep it for yourself, you can set it to private by going to your Dashboard >> Settings >> Reading and setting it to private there.

Let me know if this makes sense and if it works for you.

Oh! Awesome! Boy, that was easy! Now, because I upgraded to drop the word WordPress from my title, do I need to downgrade to make it go back to the birth and babies by design word press.com name?

No, you won’t need to do that, but what you will need to do is point your domain’s nameservers towards your new hosting. Your hosting providers should be able to provide you with your nameservers, and once you have those you will need to log in to your Dashboard and then go to Store >> My Domains >> Edit Domain >> Edit Nameservers and change them there.

Once you do your site will effectively be invisible anyway because any time anyone tries to visit birthandbabiesbydesign.wordpress.com they’ll still be redirected to birthandbabiesbydesign.com which will pull up your new site. Yet despite this all of your old content will still be there, just not visible to the public. Should anything go awry, it’ll be available to you at any time!
