How do I ban a user?
-
I have had a user on another site of mine post very inappropriate comments and I have banned him on that site. How do I ban his IP address from my blog as well.

If your blog were on WordPress.COM, and it may not be, go to Settings -> Discussion and then scroll down to “Comment Blacklist.” Enter the person’s ISP there.

Also enter their email address, their name, and if they gave one their URL. I would also recommend going to settings > discussion and turning on comment moderation so that they cannot get through. They can always try from another computer, or change IP addresses (mine seems to change on its own a couple times a week).

Yeah, I meant URL (I think). Anyway, be sure to hit “Save Changes” at the bottom of that page after you’ve put in the information.

Also, if you do an IP ban be prepared for a lot of people to complain they suddenly can’t comment on your blog. IPs are rarely assigned to one individual computer nowadays. You could be cutting off, say, every American user of AOL 25% of the time.
