How do I block a blogger from commenting?

There is a blogger who keeps commenting me all these links. I’m kind of new to WordPress and haven’t used it that much…How can I stop this blogger from commenting me?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can’t stop the troll from submitting comments but you do not have to approve any comment. Moderate them all and don’t post the ones you don’t feel are appropriate, on point, etc.

Here’s the page you set up comment moderation on > Settings > Discussion and on that page you can choose how many links will be allowed in comments . Any more than that will result in the comment going into the spam filter.

You can blacklist the commenter’s username, email address and website as outlined in the link TT references. I wouldn’t put the IP address in their though as IP addresses change all the time, and besides, IP addresses are no longer unique, but assigned to blocks of users by most ISP’s. If you put the IP address in there, you could potentially be blocking innocent visitors to your blog.

You can start a war between you and the person and make new blog posts about the issue. Great for traffic!

I agree with you. IP blocking is useless and can have the negative effect of throwing out the babies (ie. legitimate visitors and commentators) along with the trolls who have polluted the bath water.

Yes some bloggers are in a position to benefit from and online brawl and others are not. I’m conscious that every comment I post and indeed everything on my blog contributes to it’s brand either negatively or positively and I’m not into verbal combat. My advice is that only those who are skilled in verbal combat ought to consider undertaking flame wars.

However, in this case hearthegeneration is concerned about a commenter who is inclusing licks in comments. She feels the number of links is excessive and that can be dealt with byt setting the number of links allowed in any comments to a number that’s lower than the default, which is 2 (two) links. Once she sets up her blog to limit links in comments and to moderate all comments she will have a solution to her problem. She posted ie. she was seeking a solution and I have shared what’s available.
