How do I block someone?

  • Unknown's avatar

http://www.christiansanonymous.com has shared my blog, indirectly, on their anti-Christianity website. They shared pictures of my children. They have no contact info, and did not get any permission to share the way that they did. I have taken down the pictures from my blog, but because of how they shared (copied), it will not remove the content from their website. How do I handle this? It makes me very uncomfortable.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Short version:
You can’t block or delete followers. Either make the blog private or accept that reality because there is no means of blocking anyone on the internet from access any public blog and submitting comments if and when comments are open.

    Long version:
We cannot block or delete subscribers from public blogs. Anyone and everyone can access public blogs and that’s indeed what the public designation means. However, please read this about public blogs that become private blogs > Blog Privacy and Subscribers > http://wpcommaven.wordpress.com/2011/09/05/blog-privacy-and-subscribers/

Note that you have complete control over everything that’s posted to your blog via comment moderation
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#comment-moderation

For trolls, you can “blacklist” them at Settings > Discussion toward the bottom of that page. Enter their email address, their username, and if they included it, their website URL. That will automatically send them to moderation so that their comments do not appear on the blog. Do note though that if they are determined, they can use a different email address or username to get around that.

Also, do not put their IP address in the blacklist. IP addresses are no longer unique, and you might end up blocking legitimate visitors. In fact for over a decade only about 30% of us have IPs that trace back to any individual computer. Also, all they would have to do is go to a wi-fi hot spot, or connect via a different ISP and they could get around that.

    Hi there,
First off, I’m sorry this has happened to you. I would be very upset if someone was using pictures of my family without permission.

If they made actual copies of the photos then there’s not a whole you can directly do to take them down.

However, here are some suggestions on dealing with people using your copyrighted work without your permission. It ranges from laid back and polite to a little more aggressive. It was written by a regular contributor to these forums, raincoaster — just giving her credit so she won’t come after me. :)

Again, I’m sorry you’re going through this.

Good luck and I hope some of those suggestions work.

Thank you so much @dannywellman. My dad’s an attorney… hopefully I won’t have to go that route but when it comes to my kids I am definitely a mama bear!

    I don’t blame you @mycrowesnest.

If I think of anything else, I’ll let you know. Someone else may chime in on this too if they have any ideas.

    Take care,
