how do i build a wp website and not a blog? i followed instructions but no go.

    i logged on to wordpress, selected a theme for a website but all i get is a blog. i do not want a blog. So, i used HELP which indicated i could ‘add pages’ and make them ‘static’. the blog only allows two pages and i don’t want a blog or the blog layout.

    So, i went to HostGator (my host) and they told me to login and use a system called ‘quick(something) but it too made a similar two page blog instead of a website.

    Now, I have two blogs that i don’t want and no website. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

    The site you are asking about does not seem to be hosted on WordPress.COM so you need to make friends over at WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using.

    When you create and publish new pages, they will show up at the top in the navigation right along with the “home and “about” tab.

    You can set a static page for you main “home” page at settings > reading and then the normal blog page will not appear anywhere.

    You can in some themes also set the site for full-width, no sidebar layout at appearance > theme options, but that is theme dependent. In some themes there are also no sidebar page templates that you can apply to each page in your site as you make them. That would be in the attributes module in the page editor window.

    This support document does a very good job of explaining how to use wordpress as a website instead of a blog, and many, many thousands of people are using it for websites.

    I hope that you were successful in creating your web site and not a blog. I accomplished it and “thesacredpath” hit the nail right on the head. Also, when you go to appearance >menue option make sure that you do not use the blog page. This way the “blog page” basically exists but is never used and never seen; it is in the background sort to speak. You can go to my web site which I still have on wordpress.com and you will see a very static web site…no blogging!!!!
