How do I categorize the posts on my home page?

    Hi,

    I was wondering if I can separate my “in the news” posts from my other postings on my home page so my posts don’t look random. Can anyone help me with this? Also, is there any way to add small thumbnail photos to my recent articles listed on the sidebar?

    There is no setting on WordPress.com to say “I want my homepage to automatically show all posts except those in category x, y and z.” The front page displays all of the most recent posts.

    However, if it really bothers you that certain posts appear on the front page, you can set a static front page instead (no posts).

    You can enter an introductory text there or manually add links only to those posts you want.

    You can also insert an RSS widget with the link to a specific category feed (example: myblog.wordpress.com/category/books/feed/)

    The Recent Posts widget by default does not include the thumbnails for each article. Certain themes may offer that feature though. Have you looked at them?

    Yes, I saw some of them. I do want all of my recent posts on the front page, I just want them categorized with a subheading on the front page.

    Every blog here wearing the same theme is using the same underlying template.We bloggers cannot edit themes or templates. Only Staff can access and edit those files as every edit they make affects all blogs wearing the same theme.

    You can go here > Appearance > Widgets and install a Recent Posts widget in your sidebar and it will display links to your most recent posts in your sidebar, making it easy for your readers to see what’s new on your blog.

    You can use a Custom Menu to make a header with tabs to different categories of posts, eg for my blog I could do a header with Cthulhu, Julian Assange, Anonymous, Profanity, and Chihuahuas.
