How do I change cancelled domain to another registrar?
-
I recently bought ambitionforfitness.com from wordpress.com, but then I realized that I wanted .org version and so I bought external hosting. I then wanted to change domain to that registrar (GoDaddy) as well. I started to follow instructions, and “Cancelled Private Registration”, after which it seems my domain purchase got refunded. How can I move this domain to my GoDaddy account now (apparently I cant change it if the domain is less than 60 days old)?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Yes – please note, ICANN (the governing body over domains) places a 60 day lock on all new domain registrations and renewals to prevent fraud. This is a requirement placed on all domain registrars, so there is no way to waive it.
You can keep your domain registered with us and still host elsewhere for your WordPress.org site – all you need to do is update the nameservers.
After 60 days, you can always transfer your domain registration with this guide:
Please do not cancel your domain with the hopes of re-registering it GoDaddy. Sometimes it can take weeks for the registrar to release it and even then if someone snatches up the domain before you do, you would no longer own the domain. Please keep the domain registered with us (at least for 60 days) if you want to keep this domain and you can then you can transfer the registration elsewhere.

Hey again,
So as it seems I cannot move my domain (yet) to another registrar, I want to point the DNS to my GoDaddy hosted WP.
When I went to store/my domains/domain manager and logged in, I was able to change the name servers of the domain to the ones GoDaddy gave me.
However, at GoDaddy they are saying, that I also need to update my domain’s A record through your registrar to point to the IP address of the GoDaddy Managed WordPress. Now, I just cannot find any place where I could do that.
Perhaps it could be the DNS Zone Files -tab (?), but it just keeps on saying “The zone file is temporarily unavailable. If this problem continues, please contact customer support.”.
I did find one discussion where one said that “When the nameservers change, you’ll see some information under DNS Manager, and a link that says “Launch” – click that link to edit your DNS records.” I just cannot find any launch anywhere. And if I go to DNS/DNS Manager, all I seem to get is an option to add off-site DNS, but that shouldn’t be what I need as my domain is already at wordpress.com.
Thanks for your reply in advance!!

And I don’t think this change can be done from store/my domains/edit DNS, seems like that is more for some sort of email things, and not what GoDaddy asked me to do.

I can do this for you. Please give me the IP Address and I’d be happy to change it for you.
If you want to do it yourself, you will need to go to your Store -> Domains page and follow the prompts you find there:
1. Look for Domain Administration and change the dropdown menu to “Make Changes to DNS”
2. Enter a new password, putting it into both blanks (this is a new one you’re making up, so make sure to write it down)
3. Write down your Customer Number which is displayed just below
4. Click the “Save Password” button
5. Click the link for “Manage Your Domains”
6. Log in with your customer number and password that you wrote down in steps 3 & 4 above
7. You will be prompted to create a PIN number
8. You should now be logged in and see a list of your domains. Select your domain.
9. Click on DNS Zone Record tab and you should be able to make the necessary changes.Cheers!

Ah, a million thanks if you can do this for me. These hosting/domain things are not exactly my cup of tea, and not getting them correct is absolutely frustrating.
The domain (ambitionforfitness.com) A record needs to point to the IP address of the GoDaddy Managed WordPress, which is 184.168.47.225.
Fingers crossed that this will actually get the domain working, and I can start doing all the other stuff :)

At GoDaddy they told me that I can change this A record through their off-site DNS settings, and that is what I’ve also done. I have no idea if that does the same thing, but now the domain ambitionforfitness.com at least doesn’t give me anymore errors, but still only a white blank page with text “pageok” written at the top left corner.
I’m not sure if this can still be due to the DNS A record, or is it some other problem at GoDaddy hosted wordpress. Any idea?

Hi there,
I have updated the A-records as requested. Please note that the changes usually take an hour, but may take up to 48 hours.
Let me know if it’s still not changes in a couple of days!
Thank you!
