How do I change content?
-
I have a domain that I created over at Weebly (mindfulreading.com) and I think I’ve successfully brought it over to WordPress. But now I want to add widgets and functionality like a blog. I thought I added a blog to it, but when I went to view the post, it didn’t show.
I’m fully prepared to purchase the premium upgrade, but when I go to make changes to the site, it only brings me to mindfulreadingdotcom.com, not my actual website.
What am I missing?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Your site is located at your domain here: http://mindfulreading.com/
But you’ll still see your site’s free address mindfulreadingdotcom.wordpress.com in the site’s dashboard here:
https://mindfulreadingdotcom.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
We use that address behind the scenes to make sure nothing ever happens to your site’s content, even if you stop using your domain name with the site. However, visitors will just see the domain name when they visit the site.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that!

Okay, so here’s what I’m not understanding. The CURRENT website of mindfulreading.com that I’m porting over looks one way, but then when I click on the link you’ve got above, it looks completely different; in fact, it says there’s NO content. Did I lose the page layout and format that Weebly had set up and I have to create a new one over here at WP?

Hi there,
Did I lose the page layout and format that Weebly had set up and I have to create a new one over here at WP?
Yes, anything you created at Weebly is only hosted over at Weebly. When you point your domain to WordPress.com, you’ll only see the content you have here at WordPress.com — not the content you had set up at Weebly.
Unfortunately, Weebly doesn’t currently have a way to export your content from their platform in a format that can be directly imported here at WordPress.com. However, you might want to check if you can export it to one of the platforms that can be imported here. (You can find all the options under Tools > Import in your site’s dashboard.)
Otherwise, you’ll need to manually copy the content you created over at Weebly and create it again here on your WordPress.com site.
If I can send you screenshots, it’d better prove my point. How do I pull that off?
If you’d like to share screenshots, you can either upload them directly to your media library (under Media > Add New in your site’s dashboard) and I can look at them there, or you can use an online service like Snaggy.

Thank you so much, Rachel. So essentially…I have my domain name, but I’ve got to start all over from scratch on designing/building my website.
That’s just as well. There wasn’t much going on over there anyway.
Thank you again for the help!

Yes, that’s right! When you point your domain to a new platform (like switching it from Weebly to WordPress.com), you’re keeping your domain name but that doesn’t bring over any of your content automatically. Some people describe it like your street address (the domain name) and your house (the website’s content) — you could switch around the street names or house numbers, but the house itself doesn’t move. Kind of a silly metaphor, but hopefully that explains the point. :)
Just let me know if I can do anything more to help!
