How do I change DNS entries when the site is not existent anymore
-
Hi, I am referring to my previous question in this forum. Unfortunately, the issue is still not solved.
Hello @cailebethHello @elcristofue. Since you replied to my above mentioned question I address you directly.
I’m following up on this issue and would greatly appreciate your assistance.
According to WordPress’s site profiler, WordPress.com is currently listed as the hosting provider for this domain. It appears that the domain yogamand.de is still hosted by WordPress.com, as the nameserver records continue to point to ns1.wordpress.com, ns2.wordpress.com, and ns3.wordpress.com.
My current hosting provider, IONOS, has informed me that any changes to the DNS settings must be made through the provider responsible for managing these nameservers—in this case, WordPress.com.
Unfortunately, I no longer have access to the former WordPress site (yogamand.wordpress.com) that the domain was previously connected to, which means I am unable to update the DNS records via the WordPress admin interface.
I would be very grateful for your guidance on how I can regain control of the DNS settings for yogamand.de and update the records accordingly.
Thank you very much for your time and support.
Kind regards,

Hi Andrea,
Thank you for the clarification. That detail helps.
If IONOS has confirmed that they are not the registrar and asked you to contact WordPress.com, then this means one important thing.
The domain yogamand.de is registered with a third-party .de registrar, not with IONOS and not with Automattic.
For .de domains, WordPress.com can host DNS only when the domain is actively connected to a WordPress.com account. At the moment, the nameservers still point to WordPress.com, but there is no active or accessible WordPress.com account that owns or manages this domain.
Because of that:
- WordPress.com cannot grant DNS access
- WordPress.com cannot release or modify the nameservers
- Automattic cannot take ownership of the domain
This is a limitation of how DENIC (.de registry) works, not an account or permissions issue.
To move forward, the only viable options are:
- Identify the original registrar where the domain was purchased, or
- Contact DENIC directly (https://www.denic.de/en/contact/) and request guidance on registrar recovery for yogamand.de, or
- Locate any old registration confirmation, invoice, or payment record related to the domain
Once the registrar is identified, the registrar can either:
- Change the nameservers, or
- Transfer the domain to a new provider where DNS can be managed normally
I understand this is frustrating, but unfortunately, WordPress.com is technically unable to intervene in this case.
Kind regards,

Hello @amanullahriffaz
Thank you very much for your detailed reply — it’s been incredibly helpful. I must admit I’m still feeling a bit confused and somewhat overwhelmed at the moment.
Would it make things easier if I connected the domain *yogamand.de* to a new WordPress.com website? In that case, would I regain access to the DNS records?
Of course, I’ll also reach out to DENIC directly for further guidance and contact IONOS, my service provider, for additional support.
Thanks again for this very helpful reply.
Kind regards,
Andrea
