How do I change my blog URL?

    There is a blog with an identical URL. Her blog existed first and I had no idea I was kind of plagiarising her. I need to change my URL, if at all possible. Help?

    Hey andistrube,

    Bummer that your desired URL was already taken. But fear not! You can indeed change the URL for your .WordPress.com blog.

    In order to do it you want to head over to your dashboard and go to WP Admin and click on “My blogs” on the left side. When you see your site listed, hover the mouse over the name of it and you will see the option appear to “change blog address”.

    There’s no such thing as two blogs with the same URL. What are the two URLs in question, starting with http?

    Titles and URLs cannot be copyrighted. Only in rare circumstances can they even be trademarked.

    There are MANY MANY drawbacks to changing your URL. I can’t stress this enough: you lose all followers and incoming links unless you a) don’t delete teh old URL at all and b) purchase the redirect upgrade. You lose all search engine rank. In most cases the old URL is dead forever. In many cases there’s a bug so all your images have the old URL and when that is deleted, all your images vanish.
