How do I change my content width?
-
Not to be contrary, but it can. I just made that change for you. Load your site’s front page/that post again, and you will see it’s now full-width.
All I did was change the alignment setting as pictured in the screen shot I gave above, and clicking the Update button in the editor.
Anything that has been composed in the classic format can’t be changed even if the theme is changed
Are you saying you can’t even change the text? In that case, there’s a problem with your browser, because content created in the classic editor can most definitely be modified in the block editor – I do it on an almost daily basis across various sites I use for testing.
Please check if clearing your browser cache, or editing the posts in another browser makes any difference.

Yes, I can now see that you’ve changed it to full width. However, the full-width and wide-width icons you show in your screenshot don’t appear for me in that particular post which was created in classic format. Only the align left/right and align center icons appear. I can only click and drag to enlarge beyond the original content width of Cubic, and that just doesn’t change the final appearance.
There’s no problem editing text (except of course I can’t increase the line length).
I’m using Chrome and have dumped the cache as requested yesterday. I’ll try it in Safari.

OK, so it seems to work OK in Safari, but not Chrome. If you look at my blog again, the first post (Into the Beqaa 2) was edited in Chrome but if you scroll down, the third post (Into the Beqaa) was edited in Safari. So the problem is definitely Chrome. I’ve moved to Chrome from Safari because I had some WordPress problems on Safari. Any idea what the Chrome problem is? I’ve dumped the cache as suggested.

YES!!! Finally, after 4 days it seems to be working. OK, thanks, all of you. Do you mind keeping this thread open for a few more days in case there are any other issues?
-
Of course! The thread automatically closes after two weeks, but if that happens, feel free to create a new thread and reference this one. Glad to hear that it is now working for you!
-
Thanks again. I just need to experiment with a few templates now before applying one to my actual blog which is still in Cubic.
Cheers

OK, I’m back to nothing working again. I found I liked the theme Libre 2 and fiddled around with the test blog ( https://somlexperimental.wordpress.com/ ) til I was happy, then I applied the theme to my actual blog ( https://sonofthemorninglight.wordpress.com/ ) . I then went about adjusting things. I was able to change the last two posts to full width, but I’m unable to do so on the rest. The block editor either doesn’t recognise the images as images, or isn’t fully changing from classic to block. Either way, I’m back to my original position of not being able to go to full width. It’s the same in Chrome and Safari and I’ve turned of extensions and dumped the cache again. What do I do now?

Can you give a link to a specific post that’s not properly converting from the classic editor to blocks?
-
-
Currently the only away around this is to reimport all the images, which I am currently doing. It’s pretty tedious as I have hundreds of posts, but anyone have a better idea?
-
The image in that post is full-width, and the image is properly converted into an image block, so I’m not seeing the issue you described above:
The block editor either doesn’t recognise the images as images, or isn’t fully changing from classic to block.
-
That’s cos I’ve already reimported the image from 500px and edited it to full width. I posted the link about 5 hours ago. The existing image couldn’t be edited. So I’m manually going through each post and reimporting the images, as I said in my last comment.
-
Can anyone tell me where I get the short link for a post (for twitter, etc) in the block editor?
-
You can get your shortlink following these steps: https://wordpress.com/support/shortlinks/

Just my opinion but as this thread has been ongoing for a while out of curiosity I visited your site on my laptop. Personally I don’t like the full width images. They seem overwhelming, especially as the width of the text hasn’t been changed. I don’t know if things will look better or worse on a phone sized screen. With older posts the images are more in keeping with the width of the text.

I’m still experimenting with it, but how I see it is that on the home page one sees the smaller sized image, and when one clicks through there’s the larger image. So one gets both versions. Thanks for the feedback, though.
