I tried doing this through filezilla. Do I use my wordpress login and password? Where on the dashboard to I go to add a new widget that I have downloaded?

It’s much easier on WordPress.com.
Just set your Blog Icon via Settings -> General in your blog’s Dashboard. Your Blog Icon will then be used as your favicon.

Thank you for that, I was able to do that no problem, but it’s still the wordpress w logo beside the address bar when I go to my site. How can I change that?

Unfortunately, it will take some time for your browser to fresh its favicon cache. We have no control over than, and the refresh time varies greatly depending on which browser you’re using.
I currently see a red exclamation point as your favicon.
