How do I change my old username to one that matches a new domain name?

  • Unknown's avatar

I tried to start a blog years ago (thehedonisthandbook) but never got it off the ground beyond getting the wordpress blog. My wife started a page for my band a few days ago and just added me as an admin. I went to sign in and realized my name was connected to the old blog, so I deleted it. My username was still @thehedonisthandbook and I want it to match @bermandswalemusic instead. My wife isn’t using that name as her username, but it says it’s unavailable. How can I claim it?

    Thanks,

    Matt Norton

Someone else may have used it in the past. Once a name has been used it cannot be used again, even if the person cancels their account or changes their user name.

You could just change your display name. Your user name will stay the same, but your posts will show the display name. Even though I am Spookycrisp here, my blog posts are from Linnifred.

    Change Display Name (Nickname)

Go to your My Profile page
Enter your name under Public Display Name
    Click Save Profile Details.
