HOW DO I CHANGE MY SITE URL TO ONE I ALREADY OWNED

I have a blog that I’ve been using for about two years with a number of followers (https://wolewrites.wordpress.com) but I want to change the address to a new one which I’ve also registered (woles.home.blog). I’ve tried exporting the content from the old to the new address, but unfortunately my followers were not included in the export process. Please how can I change the old address to the new one; I didn’t think this should be a problem since I registered and owned the two sites.
NB: changing the name from my profile did not work, I can only change the first part and not the wordpress.com part. ThanksThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
It is not possible to change a free WordPress.com address to a different free address that has already been created. A free WordPress.com address can also only be changed to another free WordPress.com address – it cannot be changed to one of the new free .blog addresses.
If you want to use your .blog address going forward, you’ll instead need to migrate your content to that site by exporting it from the current site and importing to the new one:
Once you’ve done that, let us know and we can also move your followers and stats over for you.

Thanks kokkieh. As per your advice, I’ve migrated my contents to the new blog at woles.home.blog I believe I’m ready for your support in moving my followers and stats to this new site. I will not make any new post until this is done. Thanks again

I’ve checked the migration and it’s working fine. Super thanks! I also discovered that the old site no longer have any followers. Is it safe to now delete the old site?
Plus, will my followers automatically receive my posts from the new site or do I need to inform them of the switch? What about places on the Internet where I’ve shared the old site url. Advice pls. -

Yes, it is.
However, if you want to hide your site instead, you can use the following guide to make your site private so only you and other members of the site can view it when logged in:

Your followers will receive your posts from the new site, but if you did not let them know before the migration, I’d definitely recommend making a post about it on your new site or contacting your followers for sure.
What about places on the Internet where I’ve shared the old site url.
If you are concerned about people seeing the old address and not being able to find the new one you moved to, I would either purchase a redirect upgrade which redirects anyone visiting the old URL to the new URL, or I would not delete the old site, but rather make one last post announcing the switch to the new URL. That way, anyone who visits that site can just see the notification and visit the new site.
