How do I change text shown in the internet search of my site?

The internet search shows the website headings okay but the two lines underneath show the code text for my photos, rather than the actual photos or some other text
on the page that makes actual sense.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Lisette,

Search engines display the description of their results based on different parameters that WordPress.com users do not have any direct control over.

I’ve had a Google search for your site address, and see what you are talking about. The result for http://lisettephotographer.co.nz/ displays the code for the images rather than any meaningful description. This is because the images are the first things on the page, and so the first thing that Google sees.

One way to fix this would be to include a couple of lines of introductory text on the homepage, which will then be picked up by search engines rather than the images. You can see an example of how this works on other pages if you search for your ‘about’ page ( http://lisettephotographer.co.nz/about/ ) on Google. This is also good website practice as it helps tell your visitors what your site is about as soon as they get onto it.

Please note the changes to the page will take some time to be updated in search results, and won’t happen quickly.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Thanks ClickySteve,

That’s all good to know, and really comprehensive. I can go and make it better now.
