How do I change the A records and CNAME after transferring the domain to another

  • Unknown's avatar

I would like to stop using wordpress for my blog. I’ve transferred my domain (44diner.com) to siteground.com about 1 month ago. I want to disassociate my domain name with wordpress so that I can edit the A records and CNAME on siteground.com. How do I do that?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there! You can cancel your domain mapping, so it no longer is connected to your WordPress.com site. In order to do this, click Store → My Upgrades, and cancel your Domain Mapping subscription. That should do the trick for you. Please let me know if you have any other questions!

When I try to cancel my domain mapping I get the following:
    “My Domains
Domains registered on WordPress.com cannot be deleted here. You must contact Support and request deletion.”

I don’t want to delete my domain and I’ve already transferred my domain to another hosting company. Not sure what to do.

    Hi again!

Could you confirm you’re referring to 44diner.com? If so, it is not registered with us, so deleting your mapping here won’t interfere with your registration. Here is your who.is information for your domain:
    http://who.is/whois/44diner.com

You’ll note that your name servers are still pointing to our servers (ns1.wordpress.com, ns2.wordpress.com). You won’t want those pointed here, if you have a site hosted elsewhere. You can contact your domain registrar to change those name servers to your new website host’s servers. Once you’re done with that, I can disconnect your Domain Mapping here, and it will not effect your domain.

I hope this helps! Drop me a line if I can assist further.
