How do I change the address of my blog and keep its content and followers?

  My employer asked me to drop the word “institute” from the blog’s URL in order to reduce confusion with his blog. How do I move a blog to a new address? Obviously, I want to keep my content and my followers.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  The address you mention is already taken climateemergency.wordpress.com

  Depending on what TLD you want (com, org, net, and the like), you could register a custom domain with domain mapping (both paid upgrades) and then it would not matter what the underlying WordPress.com URL was. More here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/all-about-domains/

  Thanks.
  It looks like General Settings wouldn’t let me change the ULR, which is what my employer wants me to do–I could change it to something other than climateemergency.wordpress.com, the point is that he wants it to look less like his site. Is there any way to change THAT (without paying for an upgrade?
