How do I change the byline of one post?
-
I would like to have a guest blogger contribute to my blog. I would like the guest poster’s name to appear as the author of the post, but I don’t want the guest to have access to any other information on the site. Is there a way to simply change the “byline” for one post without making that person a contributor to the blog?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There is no way the software will automatically provide a byline for a person who is not an author and not every theme provides a byline at all. The person can email you their posts and include a byline by …so and so … on the first line of the body of the post content. That’s what I do as I do not provide Admin access to any guest authors on my blogs.
Added info:
Very few themes have an author profile that displays below every post. The data is derived from here > Dashboard > Users > My Profile > About You (section) and anything you add there appears on your Gravatar profile page as well. The point of displaying an author name is to differentiate the posts on an multi-author site. Regardless of the theme, and provided the theme is designed to display an author byline, bylines will only display now if there are at least two official authors who both have at least one published post in the blog. There’s a single author workaround here > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/01/03/wordpress-com-changes-bylines-for-authors/

Thank you so much for your response!
I had intended to have the guest blogger email me her content and do a little blurb (with maybe a picture) and byline in the body of the post, as you suggest. But I am using the Newsworthy Theme, and with that theme the date and my name automatically appear as a tab to the left of any post I create (might be helpful to take a look–http://iknowwhatyoushouldread.wordpress.com). I was hoping there was a way to change (or delete) my name from that little tab for the guest blogger’s post, so there are not conflicting bylines.

I suppose I could just delete my name from my profile (or change it to Guest Blogger) temporarily. Is there any other way?

Resolved (probably not the easiest way, but resolved nonetheless). I invited myself under a different email address to be a contributor, and made a “Guest Blogger” profile, which I will use as the author of any guest blog posts. Thanks again for your help.
