How do I change the home page to allow only the most recent blog to be visible?

  When I post a new blog, the page lengthens and the footer gets farther away. There are only 3 blogs now, but this will get worse if it continues. I am using the template “Adventure Journal” with the sidbar set to show the past 5 blogs (does this impact how many show up on the home page? – didn’t think so since I tried setting it to “1”) and that didn’t change anything)

  The widget does not change how many posts are displayed on the front page of the blog.
  Dashboard > Settings > Reading
  Blog pages show at most __ posts
  “save changes”
