How do I change the URL of my wordpress blog?

  Hello,

  When I first created my blog I didn’t fully understand all the functionality of WordPress, so I have a username I don’t like and a URL that was supposed to be my username. I’d like to change the URL of my blog so that I can purchase the domain through WordPress and have it be the address I want.

  So, I’m not sure if you are asking how to change your _______.wordpress.com URL, or add on a custom domain (i.e. johnsmith.com) to replace your _______.wordpress.com URL. So I will answer both.

  Instructions for changing your _____.wordpress.com URL can be found here:

  http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/

  Keep in mind that your old URL will become unavailable for use (by you or anyone else) once you change it. WordPress.com does not recycle URLs.

  If you are looking to add a custom domain (i.e. johnsmith.com) onto your WordPress.com site, you can find instructions for that here:

  Domains

  Essentially, you just log into your WordPress.com site’s dashboard, click on Store–>Domains, enter the name of the domain you would like to register in the “add a domain” box and click the “add domain” button. Then simply follow the instructions that appear to register your domain.

  Thank you so much for your help! I just have one more quick questions:

  If I change my ______.wordpress.com URL (either to another .wordpress.com site or to a purchased domain name), will anyone who follows my blog still follow it, will the likes, etc. still be there?

  Yes, they will still follow it. The old and new domains work like having two different doors to a house, one on X street and one on Y street but both go to the same house.

  Raincoaster is absolutely correct. You will not lose followers changing your URL.
