How do I chunk my links into different categories on my sidebar?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m using the “Blix” template and while I see how I can assign categories to the links I upload, I don’t understand how to place them under those category headings on my sidebar?

I need to chunk my links into different categories/headings on my sidebar.

    Can anyone help?

    Thx.

Once you assign categories to the links, it will separate the different links by category in the sidebar widget.

    thks sacredpath.

categories are assigned but the links are not segmented on my sidebar.

i noticed there’d 2 different category widgets in the list of widgets. i only enabled the “categories” one – i think the other one was “categories 1”. should i add it as well.

is there no “activate” key for the segmenting?

also worth noting—each link is also in the “blogroll” category—does that complicate matters?

  • Hi Sarah,

I could be wrong but this might be a bug in the Blix theme. I’m looking into it.

Also: on the Upgrades / Domains tab, if you click the ‘Put blog here’ link beside the ‘apineappleaday.com’ line, everyone will see that domain name when they visit your blog, instead of banksandtaylor.wordpress.com.

thanks on both counts, tellyworth. pls lemme know what comes of your bug research.

and just to clarify, these are categories for my links — not my posts. i really don’t need categories for my posts.

    thx!

  • It seems that the Blix theme is.. quirky. Its widgets behave differently to other themes.

The trouble with fixing a theme is that many other people already use it on their blogs. I could change Blix now, but in the morning we’d have support emails from the other 43,127 people who use that theme wondering why their blogs suddenly look different.

It’s an administrative problem at WordPress.com that we’re trying to improve. Unfortunately for now the only solution is to switch to a different theme if your current one doesn’t work the way you want.

    Darn it. That really sucks.

But I appreciate you looking into it for me so promptly.

    Thx.

Tellyworth, fyi, it’s a quirk that appeared last autumn. In summer (August-September 2007) I was using Blix for usare.wordpress.com and I was able to categorize the blogroll.
