How do I combine accounts when I can't access one account?

    I created a wordpress account a few years ago, never used it and forgot about it. Now, for work I need to edit and post on their blog through WordPress. An account for that blog was created for me and I was able to use it. When I went to update my gravitar, something changed and somehow I can only access my old account. Is there a way to regain access to the current account/profile and then combine the accounts? I am not the most astute blog user, as you can tell. :(

    Hi Katie,

    Not to worry, everyone starts out new at some point in time! Could you do me a favor and let me know both of the email addresses that you are trying to use here? You can put them in, they will show as [redacted] to everyone else but we will be able to see them.

    Also, in such cases, we find that it is usually the case that someone has logged in using one email address and not logged out completely. You may have to clear your cookies to make sure they’re totally out. You can find out how to clear your cookies right here:

    If the clearing out your cookies doesn’t work, let me know about the two addresses and I’ll see what I can see!

    I’ve cleared the cache and the cookies, so we should be good in that regard.

    (Another note I forgot to mention: I have to reset my password everytime I log in. It also asks me, even though I just re-set my password, to verify my e-mail address. However, when I push that button I don’t receive an e-mail. )

    I believe that I have two “profiles” or “accounts” both associated with the same e-mail address ((email visible only to moderators and staff)). I believe (am not sure) that one is with katiedudgeon as the user name (the one I can currently access related to katiedudgeon.wordpress.com) and one with katie as the username and associated with charrette.co (the one I really need to access for work).

    However, from what my colleagues tell me, the photo is similar for both. So I was somehow able to update them at one point.

    There is a slight chance that somehow my original account was associated with another e-mail address, however I believe both accounts are now operating with a (email visible only to moderators and staff) e-mail at this point in time.

    However, my sleuthing may be off. :) Next steps are appreciated!

    Hi Katie,

    Every username at WordPress.com (and by extension Gravatar) is associated with a different email address. We don’t allow the same email address to be used twice, so you definitely have a different email address somewhere.

    Since charrette.co is a self-hosted WordPress.org site, I absolutely believe that you have a username like “katie” (because there aren’t likely to be a lot of users in that system), but in WordPress.com/Gravatar, there are several million users, so the username “katie” is long gone so it isn’t likely that katie is your username here (plus, I checked and that username doesn’t have a gravatar image associated with it).

    So at this point it appears that if you do have two different Gravatars showing up then you’ll have two different accounts. One using the email address which you sent me and one at some other email address. If you can think of what email address you used, I can hunt it down. Alternatively, if you can find or create a public-facing post or comment using that Gravatar account profile and send me a link to it, I might be able to figure out what email address is attached to it. Let me know if you can do either of these!

    Thanks–the username that I have with the account I can access but have to always reset the password is @katiedudgeon or katiedudgeon and it is associated with (email visible only to moderators and staff). (I don’t have two different gravatars showing up.)

    The other e-mails possibly associated with the account would be (email visible only to moderators and staff) or (email visible only to moderators and staff), in case that helps in the meantime.

    Let me check on the other things. :)

    Hi Katie,

    Neither of those email addresses came up with anything. In regard to the issue with you not being able to log in, is that something which is occurring here at WordPress.com or on your other site, charrette.co?

    If it’s on WordPress.com, there may be an issue with your cookies not being written correctly. Could you check to make sure that third party cookies are allowed? You can check here:
