Hey there, i’m new to this – wandered if someone out there can help!
I’ve recently aquired a domain name and hosting as well as sign up with WordPress. Now, how do i connect all of this mumbo-jumbo together to start a website and a linked blog?
Hope this is not a too difficult question to answer? LOL

check what your web site hosting company will do for free.

    1. if you park the domain they can re-direct all traffic to your blog. Use a theme that has menus in it and you don’t need a web site at all, your blog will be it. My company do that for free but only after i have paid for hosting for one particular domain

    2. you can maybe also get them to divert all incoming pop3 mail from that domain to a gmail account. so you might not even need them for email but you can still give out a business card with the ‘correct’ email and website address on!

    3. you can also set up yourdomain.com/blog to be mapped to your wordpress site.

there is aquite a bit of stuff on this topic and it can get a bit complex. Work out exactly what you want to achieve first of all.

If you have paid for hosting, then why not use it by installing the wordpress software on that host and setting everything up there.

This is the wordpress.COM hosting service, and if you map your domain name to a blog here, then you will have paid for hosting for nothing. Your blog will be physically located here on the wordpress.COM servers, and your hosting account will sit unused.

You need to read up on this about the differences between wordpress.COM and wordpress.ORG: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ .
