How do I contact support to recover my website???

  • Unknown's avatar

I haven’t used my website in a while and don’t have any ownership proof that is asked for in the account recovery form. I purchased the domain on Wix and they told me it’s hosted on wordpress as I couldn’t find the location. I really need to update this website as it is outdated but it’s taken a long time to find a way to contact support here. I purchased it a couple years ago but there must be other ways to prove ownership or contact support. I really hope someone can help me ASAP. Thank you!

  • Hi there,

Can you tell us the URL of the site you’re trying to regain access to?

If the site is hosted with us and you have a custom domain connected to the site, you will have a transaction ID you can use to verify ownership, as there’s no way to use your own domain on WordPress.com without paying for an upgrade.

Goddesslifeapp.com. I assumed I registered with my email (email visible only to moderators and staff) but when I enter it it says there’s no account with the email, or my personal email. If the only way to view transaction ID is through my bank statements it was from years ago so I can’t retrieve it as they don’t allow me to search for specific purchases. Thank you.

I just also saw that I’ve received emails in the past from WP to this current email that I’m signed in as ((email visible only to moderators and staff)) about this website, yet it isn’t here in this account.

  • Thanks. I looked up that domain in our system, and that domain has never been connected to any site hosted with us on WordPress.com.

The site at that domain is built with WordPress, but the open source software made on WordPress.org. The IP address for the domain points to Amazon Web Services (AWS), so they’re your hosting provider for the site.

We have no control over that site, nor over your login details for that site, so our account recovery process won’t help you in this case.

The password for your admin account for that site is stored in your site’s database on your hosting provider’s servers, so contacting AWS support directly is your best bet for getting help with this – many hosts offer a way for you to reset this directly via your hosting control panel.

Otherwise you can see the password reset instructions for your version of WordPress at https://wordpress.org/support/article/resetting-your-password/ for other methods, like changing the password directly in the database.

For more help with this, you can also ask the WordPress.org community for advice at https://wordpress.org/support/forums, though I recommend you try AWS first.

Go to https://aws.amazon.com/ and click on Support in the menu at the top. Log into your AWS hosting account (follow their password reset process if you don’t remember your login details for that), and then you’ll be able to contact their support team for help regaining access to the admin user account for your site with them.
