How do I control links to a deleted domain name?
-
I changed my blog url from bawdendj,wordpress.com to doingthingsdigitally.wordpress.com because I wanted to upgrade to doingthingsdigitally.com. However I was still only given the option of bawdendj.com so I bought that. Now, people are linking to my content but the link brings up a page saying ‘bawdendj.wordpress.com’ is no longer availabe’ and I deleted bawdendj.wordpress.com. How can I get these links to redirect to bawdendj.com which is the registered domain name for doingthingsdigitally.wordpress.com?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
It looks like you recently changed your blog address from bawdendj.wordpress.com to doingthingsdigitally.wordpress.com. Then, you purchased the domain doingthingsdigitally.com on the blog doingthingsdigitally.wordpress.com. When you change your blog address, your old blog address is effectively deleted meaning old permalinks will not work. So, any link like http://bawdendj.wordpress.com/2014/01/13/5-slightly-weird-tips-to-deal-with-bloggers-block/ will result in a 404 error. However, the links on your new blog appear to be directing successfully to your new URL like this one: http://doingthingsdigitally.com/2014/01/13/5-slightly-weird-tips-to-deal-with-bloggers-block/.
Can you confirm that everything is working correctly on your side? Please let me know if I misunderstood your question in any way!

Hi,
That’s right, you’ve completely understood the question, thank you. As you say, I think unfortunately I’ve deleted the bawdendj site and links but everything seems to be working fine with the new address and domain. My own fault for not redirecting before I deleted the blog address! But luckily it only affected a few links and people seem to be using the new site address now. Thank you for getting back to me, I appreciate it.

Not a problem! Yes, the old links likely will not work. Let me know if you have any trouble with the new links!
