How do I copy / back up / transfer my blog?
-
My web designer is taking my WordPress blog to the next level and she’s asking me to “please copy /back up/ transfer your wordpress blog”. I have no idea how to do that so she can work her magic. I read the info in Moving a Blog, but again, I’m not tech savy enough to understand if that’s what she needs me to do. Don’t laugh, this is why I hire tech people, ;-).

You refer to moving a blog. Tell your web designer we WordPress.com bloggers do not have an internal backup system and ask her to read this > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ I assume you mean hiring a web host, setting up a wordpress.org install and importing your content and links into it. See:

As a WordPress.com blogger you can only backup posts comments etc in an XML file, from the dashboard area Tools->Export and use that file for all the text and code.
As a WordPress.org blogger you can backup the database as well, meaning that you can backup everything.
It depends on what your web designer intends to do, so read this http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/.
If you are planning on moving to a self hosted blog, then you can install several plugins to backup everything. -
Thanks guys – I think I have all the info I need to get the designer. Appreciate the help :-).
