How do I Create a Blog page as Clean as This Guy’s.
-
Hi. Its http://www.pinglewood.com/
Its just a basic clean set up, but with all the right links in place. I’m currently fishing round all the blogs sites. I do have a site name and a host ( another friend), but getting the balance right as been tricky when it comes to advancing on the functionality of a blog to behave a little more like a site.
I’m a hack photojournalist, with some portfolios to define online, from the angle of an anthro culturalist (MA level, to continue through to PhD). I need the be able to self maintain, with a degree of html proficiency etc, and to have links to muliple page contents, and so on, and a continuing basis……..
If anyone could point me ahead to the next step, or had something to add which might help, I’d greatly appreciated it.
Thanks Brian.

The blog you point to is not a wordpress.com blog and it has so many posts and so much embedded “tat” on the front page that the loading time is almost long enough to each half a sandwich in.
The bottom line is: We do not provide support to bloggers who are not hosted by wordpress.com. If you have downloaded software from wordpress.org which is entirely different from our software here then go there http://wordpres.org/support and ask your questions.

Well first of all, thanks for the response.
Second, I don’t mind the embedded ‘tat’, or atleast I don’t mind his page one bit. Its format supports exactly the channels of thinking I’d like to follow through with as I blog.
So how exactly does one embed in the same way? And Can I do it here?I don’t mind which blog I use, or buying the upgrade here, it really makes no difference. Its just the overall userablity, with a minimal of aesthetic fuss. I haven’t yet downloaded any software.

I don’t think we are reading each other clearly. Are you asking for advice with respect to a wordpress.com blog?
If so then you have two options.
(1) the choice of the themes here -> Presentation -> Themes
(2) paying for a css upgrade and customizing one of those themes yourself
n.b. this css upgrade is not recommended for those who have no css editing experience and there is no staff support for learning howI do have a site name and a host ( another friend), but getting the balance right as been tricky when it comes to advancing on the functionality of a blog to behave a little more like a site.
That’s nice but I’m not sure what it has to do with a wordpress.com blog that is hosted by wordpress.com?
If you want total control over your template and how it functions and you want embeds that are not listed in the wp.com FAQs — that cannot be achieved here at wordpress.com. You will need to download different software from http://wordpress.org

Oh…..I see…..I can basically start with a clean slate from the .org version. Thanks.
Is it possible to link it to the host and site name my friend has for me. i.e its just http://www.myname.com
Apologies for the ignorance.

This lays out the differences between wordpress.com (a wp-MU multi-user blogging platform) and wordpress.org services https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=3700
If you do download wordpress.org software you will have to either self-host that software or hire a web host to do it for you. And you will get answers to your wordpress.org questions over here http://wordpress.org/support
You can import the contents of your wordpress.com blog into wordpress.org software and you can leave a link in your wordpress.com blog to direct readers to your new blog.
