How do I create a child name server?

  • Unknown's avatar

My domain was originally registered through WordPress, but I recently moved the website to a virtual private server. My hosting company instructed me to create child name servers to point the domain to the new VPS hostname. I looked through several forums to find out how to do this, but I only see solutions for adding a pre-registered name server, not for creating a new child name server.

I have the IP addresses and the hostname that I want to set for the child name server, I just don’t know how to create the child name server. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

And the blog URL above listed is incorrect. The website I need help with is internationalbeethovenproject.com

  • Howdy,

Sure thing. On the page in the Domain Manager that lists the options to lock/unlock the domain, change the nameserver, DS records, Host Name records, authorization code, etc. On the system, you can create custom nameservers using the Host Name function.

It’ll ask you for the name for the nameserver (e.g. ns1 if you wanted to us ns1.example.com) and the IP address.

If you have any questions or need anything else, please let me know. Have a great weekend!

Thanks for following up, kraftbj. I don’t see a “Host Name” function on the Domain Manager page. I only see an option to “Set Nameservers,” which shows me the nameservers currently used, and allows me to add a pre-registered nameserver, but not to create a new one with a new IP address. Is there a way I can upload some screenshots to this post to show you what I mean?

Also, can you respond using the email I listed for this thread ((email visible only to moderators and staff)), instead of the default email address? The default email is for my client, but he’s not involved in this.

Hello? A little help? I feel like I’m so close, yet so far.

  • Hi again,

I had sent this to the (email visible only to moderators and staff) e-mail address directly on Friday:

    Hi Richard,

If you click on one of the domains names, you’ll be taken to the domain’s specific page, which will have the host name option.

Please let me know if you have any questions and have a great weekend.

    Cheers,

When presented with the list of domains, if you click on the one you’ll like to add nameservers to, it’ll bring you to the details page for the domain with the link for the host names.

If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks for your patience as we have limited staff working on the weekends.
