How do I create a new widget?

    Hello, I’m a new user (I had a blog on blogger.com and moved to yours under suggestion of friends), I would like to know if it’s possible to create a new widget to show what book I’m currently reading, maybe with pictures, do you think it’s possible?
    If I get info about how to publish it, I can code it myself,

    You can do all that with a text widget and some html.

    The only widgets we can use are the ones provided by wordpress.com. Any third party stuff (like I have a hug counter on one blog, an updating word of the day and a weather thing on another) where they provide code can go into a text widget with the restriction that it’s plain html. No scripting, no flash, no embeds, no iframes. Those will be stripped out.
