How do I create a page that demands login for members only?

  It will be quite OK with the same password for all members of the club.
  Is there a function for giving the members unique passwords?

  You can password protect a particular post or page:
  http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/#password-protect-a-post
  http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-visibility/#password-protect-a-page

  It’s not possible to set a unique password for each user, however.

  Another option would be to set your entire blog to private, and then add users to your access list:

  http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
