how do I create an identical menu and categories?

  I am setting up my blog, and would like to have a drop down menu with categories of posts that match the categories on the side bar. I feel like this should be a straight forward thing to do, but am having trouble making it happen.

  You can do that by creating your own menu at Appearance -> Menus in your blog’s Dashboard.
