How do I customize my premium theme?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have bought a new premium theme from wordpress for my blog. Theme is “the Writer” by Obox themes.

I wanted to make small changes to the way posts appear on the home page. At present each post on the home page on this theme shows:
    – Written By
    – Title
    – Date of Post

I would like to replace the:
    – “Written by” with a customized title
    – “Date of Post” with some tags that are relevant to the post
    – Add the date of the post written inside the post when the entire post is opened and not on the home page.

How do I do that? I cannot access the php source code either. Please help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

These changes can only be made using our Custom CSS feature. You can purchase the Custom Design upgrade to be able to edit the CSS of your page here:

    Custom Design [Redirects to Plans]

Let me know if you’d like to do that I can help out with figuring out the CSS code!

    Hi Shawna,

    Appreciate your response.

Just wanting to understand what exactly can the Custom Design Upgrade do?
Of what I understand it gives ability to use custom fonts, use a better variety of colors, and use the CSS editor for modifications.

What all can a CSS editor do? Can the CSS make these following changes:
    – Adding tags at the bottom of every post picture on the home page instead of having the date and name as shown in the current format
    – Changing the ” Written by ‘NAME’ ” (on the post top left of every post) on the home page to a customized title instead that I want.

I am told these modifications may not happen in the CSS code. Is there a way to fix my issues? These are just minor changes. Please help or this theme will become completely useless for my work. I had bought this theme keeping in mind that it is customizable but all I can customize at present are only colors and formats, not very useful for me.

    Awaiting your response. Thanks.

    Hi there!

You can change most parts of your website through CSS. You can read more about the Custom CSS feature here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-css/

    – Adding tags at the bottom of every post picture on the home page instead of having the date and name as shown in the current format
    – Changing the ” Written by ‘NAME’ ” (on the post top left of every post) on the home page to a customized title instead that I want.

Both of these changes are more complex than I can specifically help you with. You may want to check our CSS forum for more information about these specific changes:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization

You can also try out the Custom Design upgrade before you purchase it. Go to Appearance → Customize, click the Custom Design menu link, and then click the Try Now button. The CSS panel has an editor where you can paste CSS code and preview the changes in the live preview area on the left. The CSS changes you try before purchasing the upgrade will only be visible to you, so you can test and edit to your heart’s content.

Let me know if I can help further!
